We, the undersigned, petition the Prime Minister to include basic markup skills in the National Curriculum.

If people are taught basic markup skills, then creating content for the web and other digital media will be far easier.

Markup in this context refers to a markup language, such as HTML, although a simple markup language, such as Markdown or Textile, would be equally appropriate.

It is a transferable skill and one which informs all other subjects where the written word is used.

It will also make huge difference to the economy, as millions of hours will be saved in the re-editing of existing content.

This petition closed on Tuesday 23 February 2010 without having attracted any support at all. The creator was left in a minority of one. Here’s your chance to comment on this petition.
