We, the undersigned, petition the Prime Minister to introduce a bill to reduce party control of MPs by allowing them to keep their salaries for life.
One reason why the House of Commons (but not the Lords) is so discredited is that MPs dare not vote according to conscience in case they are deselected and lose their livelihood. I propose that any MP should keep his MP’s salary for life, even after he loses his seat. The cost to the taxpayer would be small compared to the gain in conscientious government.
